Did You Know . . . . . .

  • The State of Delaware gets most of its water for a variety of uses from the waters of the Delaware River Basin.

  • New Castle County, Delaware's largest and northern most county, gets 75% of its drinking water supply from surface water sources.

  • The Brandywine Creek, Red Clay Creek, White Clay Creek, and Christina River provide water supply for New Castle County.

  • 25% of New Castle County uses groundwater for drinking water supply.

  • Kent County and Sussex County, Delaware rely solely on groundwater for drinking
    water supply.

  • Delaware shares the water resources of the Delaware River Basin with three other states-Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.

  • If you live in the city of Wilmington, you use water from the Brandywine Creek.

  • Most of the water supply in New Castle County comes from water utilities, either
    municipal or invester-owned.
