The
UD Rain Garden
DNREC's Pike Creek Restoration Project
Through
an analysis conducted by the Delaware Department of Natural
Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) in 1998-99, the
upper Pike Creek was identified as a segment in need of restoration.
The
goal of stream restoration is to return a stream to equilibrium
by reducing bank erosion and restoring sediment transport and
turbidity levels to those that would occur under stable stream
conditions comparable to pre-urbanization. In addition, the
restoration project will result in the planting of riparian
wetland and upland vegetation, further protecting the banks,
improving or maintaining water quality and providing riparian
habitat.

Before restoration on Pike Creek at Three Little Bakers
Golf Course, rip-rap was used in some areas to hold
the stream banks in place.
|

After restoration on Pike Creek at Three Little Bakers
Golf Course - the same area has been transformed with
logs, tree stumps, boulders, and live branch willow
layering to stabilize the banks and create a habitat
for fish and macro-invertebrates.
